The award committee selected Sterling for his incredible work with Zee over at National Ground Game, his history of canvassing and working on major political campaigns, and his recent efforts spearheading the ambitious push to get three DGGers elected to the DNC Youth Council.
Sterling Raiklen was the deputy state director of the 2024 Nevada Canvassing house and currently serves as an organizer for DGG Political Action and the fundraising director for National Ground Game. For more information about Sterling, visit: nationalgroundgame.com/sterling
Sterling recently led an initiative to run three DGG candidates for the DNC Youth Council. While the results of the December 13th election did not yield a seat on the council this cycle, the campaign itself was a massive success in raising awareness and demonstrating the organizing power of our community.
Sterling’s vision for the campaign highlighted exactly why this work matters:
“Historically the Youth Council itself has not had very much impact in the direction of the Democratic Party... Yet the recent ascension of DNC Chair Ken Martin has seen a major shake-up and big reforms... As grassroots organizers who have helped Democrats win key races for years, this now gives us a chance to have a voice for the direction of Youth organizing in the Democratic Party.”
By stepping into the arena with over 80 other candidates, Sterling and the team forced the DNC to pay attention to the "New Media Age" vision. This run has paved the way for future DGG Political Action initiatives and proved that this community is ready to engage at the highest levels of party infrastructure.
Congratulations to Sterling Raiklen on his hard work, his leadership, and his win of the DGG Political Action Award!
